Recommended setup
A sensible starting configuration and a few best practices for a healthy server.
There's no single "right" way to set this up. What follows is a sensible starting point that works for most communities, plus a few habits that keep things running smoothly once you're past day one.
A good first hour
- Fix role hierarchy first. Drag the HoneyGate role near the top of your role list. That one move heads off the most common problem people hit. Here's why.
- Turn on Welcome messages. Greet new members and drop a starter role on them.
- Add self-assign roles. A colours panel and a "ping me for..." panel are quick, easy wins.
- Turn on Points & XP. The defaults are fine to start with.
- (Free) Add Leveling with a few role rewards, so activity actually unlocks something.
Once you're settled
- Quests (Pro). A couple of daily quests plus a "reach Level 5" milestone.
- Giveaways. Run one to celebrate a milestone.
- Moderation (Pro). Start gentle: invites, spam, and a short banned-words list.
- Tickets (Pro). Worth it if members need a private way to reach staff.
Best practices
- One change at a time. Turn a feature on, watch it for a day, then add the next. You'll always know what caused what.
- Use a test channel. Try welcomes and panels somewhere quiet before they go live in front of everyone.
- Pick clear channels. Make sure HoneyGate can actually see and post in any channel you hand to a feature.
- Reward, don't overwhelm. A few meaningful role rewards beat dozens of tiny ones nobody chases.
- Check the leaderboards now and then to see what's landing with your members.
