Plain-English definitions of the words you'll see around HoneyGate and Discord.

Quick, plain-English definitions. Crypto-specific terms are marked (crypto), and you can ignore those unless your community uses wallet features.

Everyday HoneyGate & Discord terms

Admin panel. The web dashboard where server staff set up and run HoneyGate.

Member portal. Each member's personal web page (level, rewards, leaderboards, quests, game stats).

Role. A label Discord puts on a member. It can grant a colour, access to channels, or special permissions. Much of HoneyGate is about handing out roles automatically.

Role hierarchy. The order of roles in your server. A bot can only manage roles below its own. This is the most common setup gotcha, so see Bot permissions.

Self-assign roles. Roles members pick for themselves from a menu of buttons (or by reacting), like colours or game pings.

Slash command. A command you type in Discord starting with /, like /xp rank. A menu pops up as you type.

Gate. A rule that grants a role only when a condition is met. The condition can be general, like reaching a level, or (crypto) holding a token or NFT.

Welcome message. An automatic greeting, and an optional starter role, when someone joins your server.

XP. Experience points earned by being active: chatting, voice, reactions. XP is per server and drives your level.

Level. A rank you reach as your XP grows. Servers can attach role rewards to levels (included on the Free plan).

Network Points. HoneyGate's reward currency, counted across every HoneyGate server you're in, separate from XP and from your server's Coins. You earn them by winning HoneyGate games, plus a one-time bonus the first time you earn in a new HoneyGate server. Your all-time Network Points are a reputation score that only goes up, and that's the number that ranks you on the network board. Alongside it you have a spendable balance, which does go down when you spend.

Coins. Your server's own spendable balance, used for tipping, the shop, and the economy games. Coins stay in the server you earned them in, and each server can call them something else. They are not Network Points: earning one never moves the other.

Quest. A small goal (send 10 messages, reach a level) that gives a reward when completed.

Daily check-in. A once-a-day button on your portal that earns a reward and builds a streak.

Embed. A tidy, formatted message box, with a title, colour, and fields, that bots post instead of plain text.

Embed builder. HoneyGate's tool for designing those formatted messages.

Starboard. A "best of" channel that collects messages once they get enough of a chosen reaction (Pro).

Ticket. A private conversation a member can open to get help from staff (Pro).

Alt account. A second (or third) account run by the same person. HoneyGate can flag likely alts (Pro).

Auto-moderation. Automatic filtering of things like invite links, spam, and banned words (Pro).

Invite tracking. Seeing who invited which new members (Pro).

Reputation passport. A shareable public profile summarising a member's standing across HoneyGate servers.

API / webhook / widget. Developer tools to connect HoneyGate to other software or embed parts of it on a website. See For Developers.

Crypto terms (only if your community uses wallet features)

Wallet. An app (like Phantom or Solflare) that holds someone's crypto and lets them sign in to crypto services. HoneyGate only ever reads a wallet's public address.

Verify / wallet verification. Proving you own a wallet by signing a message, which moves nothing and approves nothing. This links the wallet to your Discord.

Token. A unit of a cryptocurrency. A server can grant a role to people who hold a certain amount of a specific token.

NFT. A unique digital collectible. A server can grant a role to holders of a particular NFT collection.

Token/NFT gate. A rule of the form "hold this, get that role."

Solana. The blockchain HoneyGate's wallet features use.

Holder role. A role automatically given to members who hold the required token or NFT.

Airdrop / snapshot. (Pro) Tools for distributing tokens to holders, or taking a list of who holds what at a moment in time.
