Why is leveling free on HoneyGate? Because it should be. MEE6 and Carl-bot moved it behind a paywall once they had scale. HoneyGate is launching with a simple promise: the basics are free, forever. The paid plan ($9.99/mo) unlocks advanced tools — quests, scheduled announcements, token gating, advanced analytics, tickets. Not the core engagement loop.

Switching from MEE6

MEE6 charges $12/mo just to use leveling. Here’s how to move without losing any history.

MEE6 → HoneyGate 5 steps

Estimated time: 5–10 minutes. Your XP history transfers via HoneyGate’s built-in import tool.

  1. Add HoneyGate to your server Click “Add to Discord” on this page. HoneyGate needs the same server-management permissions as MEE6 to assign roles.
  2. Open the HoneyGate admin panel Go to honeygate.app, log in with Discord, and select your server. The permission health check runs automatically — fix anything flagged before continuing.
  3. Import your MEE6 XP In the admin panel, go to Points & XP → Import from MEE6. HoneyGate pulls your server’s public MEE6 leaderboard and maps each member’s XP to HoneyGate’s system automatically. No spreadsheet needed.
  4. Set up your role rewards In Points & XP → Role Rewards, recreate your level-up roles. If your role names and level thresholds are already set in MEE6, match them here. Members who already have the role keep it — HoneyGate won’t strip roles it didn’t assign.
  5. Remove MEE6 Once you’ve verified a test level-up works (use the “Send a test level-up” button on the Leveling page), kick MEE6 from your server. Done.

Switching from Carl-bot

Carl-bot handles moderation and reaction roles well, but it has no native leveling system. Most servers pair it with MEE6 or Arcane to get XP. HoneyGate replaces all three in one bot.

Carl-bot → HoneyGate 5 steps

Carl-bot has no public XP export (it doesn’t have a leveling system to export from). Members start fresh at 0 XP — treat it as a community reset and announce a new leaderboard competition.

  1. Add HoneyGate and open the admin panel Same first steps as MEE6 above — add the bot, log in, run the permission health check.
  2. Recreate your reaction / button roles In HoneyGate, go to Modules → Self-Assign Roles and rebuild your Carl-bot panels visually — no slash commands, no message IDs. HoneyGate supports emoji buttons, dropdown selects, exclusive-pick mode, and per-panel role requirements.
  3. Set up leveling (new — Carl-bot doesn’t have this) Go to Points & XP → Settings. Pick your XP rate and cooldown, then add role rewards in Points & XP → Role Rewards. If you were running Arcane or MEE6 for leveling, you can remove them once this is live.
  4. Check moderation and logging overlap Review Modules → Moderation and Modules → Logging to cover any Carl-bot automod or log channels you had configured.
  5. Remove Carl-bot (and any leveling-only bots) Once a test level-up fires correctly, kick Carl-bot, MEE6, and/or Arcane. Done.

Switching from Arcane

Arcane is the XP leader, but its setup takes 26 steps. HoneyGate targets 3 minutes to first level-up, with a built-in guided setup and permission checker.

Arcane → HoneyGate 3 steps

Arcane’s XP isn’t publicly exportable, so members will start fresh. The tradeoff: HoneyGate also handles giveaways, moderation, welcome messages, and token gating — so you can remove 2–3 other bots at the same time.

  1. Add HoneyGate and run the permission check The first-run dashboard surfaces any role or channel issues before you configure anything. Fix those first — they’re usually “move the HoneyGate role higher in your role list”.
  2. Set up leveling in one screen Points & XP → Settings covers XP rate, cooldown, per-role multipliers, decay, and announcement channel. The “Send a test level-up” button fires a real level-up for your own account so you can see it work.
  3. Consolidate your other bots Audit which other bots your server runs (giveaways, moderation, welcome, starboard). HoneyGate likely covers them — enable the relevant modules and remove the single-purpose bots.

Switching from Collab.Land

Collab.Land repriced in late 2025, pushing many communities to $35–$149/mo. HoneyGate includes Solana token gating free (2 gates), with combo rules and up to 10 gates on Pro at $9.99/mo — and bundles leveling and giveaways free.

Collab.Land → HoneyGate 4 steps

Your wallet verifications don’t transfer — members will re-verify once. This takes about 30 seconds per member using HoneyGate’s /verify flow.

  1. Set up HoneyGate The free tier includes wallet verification plus 2 token and 2 NFT gates — enough for many servers. Pro ($9.99/mo) unlocks combo/trait rules and up to 10 gates each.
  2. Configure your gate In Modules → Gating, add a gate condition: paste your token mint address or collection address, set the minimum balance, and select the Discord role to grant. Supports Solana SPL tokens, NFT collections, and trait filters (Pro).
  3. Post the /verify instructions in your server Members run /verify in Discord, connect their Solana wallet with a signature (no seed phrase), and HoneyGate auto-assigns their role. A pinned post in your gated channel works well.
  4. Remove Collab.Land Once your first wave of members has re-verified and roles are assigning correctly, kick Collab.Land. HoneyGate re-checks wallet balances automatically on a schedule — roles stay in sync without you doing anything.

Switching from VibeBot

Common questions

Will my existing roles be stripped? No. HoneyGate only manages roles it was configured to manage. Any roles assigned by another bot stay on your members until you actively reconfigure them.

Can I run HoneyGate alongside my current bot temporarily? Yes. Running both during the transition period is fine. Remove the old bot once you’re confident HoneyGate is working correctly.

What if something breaks during setup? The permission health check on the first-run dashboard catches the most common issues before they cause problems. If you’re stuck, the /docs/faq/ section covers the most common fixes, and you can reach support via the link in the admin panel.

Is HoneyGate free forever? The free tier (leveling, welcome messages, button roles, basic giveaways, moderation, member portal) has no time limit. The Pro plan ($9.99/mo or $99.90/yr) adds advanced engagement tools, token gating, and priority support. You can cancel Pro anytime — your free features stay.
